Think of how much we all care–<\/p>\n

for God’s sake–<\/p>\n

think of us.<\/p>\n

Think of the children.<\/p>\n

But only\u00a0certain<\/em> children, because as we have seen<\/p>\n

some children only want to be mean, manipulative,<\/p>\n

imitative,<\/p>\n

and you have to get creative to say: No.<\/p>\n

And who knew those two letters could hold you back so far?<\/p>\n

Who knew that you could stand up and give a speech<\/p>\n

straight from memory about a kid, a ransom, a car,<\/p>\n

and you could lean over to reach for a note in the middle<\/p>\n

and yet two letters would be your undoing.<\/p>\n

Of all 26, you would think they would be harder letters:<\/p>\n

like R or L or Q, something much better suited for power.<\/p>\n

(That’s why it’s not called mukduk.)<\/p>\n

This was ticking down and we both knew it,<\/p>\n

but what you didn’t know is that I could see it from weeks away.<\/p>\n

I wish I was accurate enough to say what day,<\/p>\n

but honestly, we both knew\u00a0something<\/em> was going to happen<\/p>\n

and you weren’t going to like it.<\/p>\n

Either way,<\/p>\n
